Meet the Women behind Kendaka

Howaida

The former Glass upcycling leader, she is a 22 years old mother of 3 littles ones, she graduated with a diploma in commerce and has become one of the most experienced artisans in Kendaka and a peer trainer to new recruits.

Howaida has (only) worked in pharmacies before joining Kendaka ” I am really proud of the work that I do here, and I feel I have the artistic skill for it , something that I only discovered when I came here”, Howaida today is not only the glass upcycling leader she also has the role of workshop leader. Howaida organically grew into the role that fits her skills and capabilities the most, being responsible for the workshop’s operations.

Howaida’s dream we heard it long before she filled the roles she owns today at Kendaka, her dream is to manage a factory and our dream is for her to have the factory she can managed so wisely and passionate and she does in our workshop.

Asmaa

The Queen of crochet, a mother of four, she is only 28 years old but an institution herself, Asmaa is one of Kendaka’s entrepreneurs, the creator and co-owner of the upcycled textile-crochet line. She is building up a team of Kendakas to expand the textile upcycling concept and she is venturing into new upcycling lines using different materials

Asmaa’s dream as we first heard it, is to have her own business, something we see her shaping daily.

Turkeya

also known as Um Juwayrya , 35 years old, a mother of four, who used to make crochet and sell it in her neighborhood, due to her talent and artistic touch she became a senior artisan at Kkendaka “I really love it here and I feel pride with each product I deliver “.

She learned to upcycle glass very fast and became one of our most productive Kendakas. Nobody can compete with her applying even the most delicate and artistic stickers to the glass. She is also known for her sense of humor and with her catchy, lively and expressive eyes, the only thing that show from her, once a man enters. She brings laughter in our workshop all day long

Amal

Amal

Amal Elsaid, 33 years old, a wife and a mother for 3 kids, “at Kendaka i feel like i have an impact, that i am not useless” – Amal is main pilar in the glass upcycling workshop, one of the first women who came, she is efficient, hard working and always take initiatives, she is the diplomatic of the workshop that keep all the girls working together in a nice friendly atmosphere.

Um Ahmed

The chef of the Kiosk in front of the factory, mother of 3, Immediately after we moved into the factory, she doubled the space of her Kiosk – the meeting point for all the workers in the area. Starting from 6.30 every working day she overlooks the scenery. Um Ahmed is our helpful link to the community and our mamma feeding us with yummi potato sandwiches and aubergine.

Nesreen

Nesreen

Nesreen landed in our workshop through her sister, which was a much loved Kendaka, Graduate of the Faculty of Commerce,lives with her family ,5 sisters and two brothers, always being the voice of justice and fairness. Nesreen brings joy into our workshop with her singing and guitar playing. Having her is having the spirit of justice within us and for that we are grateful.

She is now leading the Plastic upcycling and weaving workshop, with a creative and adventurous spirit for creating and experimenting with new and unique plastic products and techniques.

Mariam

our youngest lady in Kendaka, she is studying in the Egyptian chinese university – economics and international trade- she is an intern in Kendaka, she is trained by our Co-founder and Marketing manager Catherine Eltaweel, she is very active and fast learner, very eager to learn.

Samar

Samar is a mother for two sweet kids, Adam and Layan, she is Currently holding accounts and responsible for all the website orders and shipping, she is also involved in the workshop inventory for the collected materials and finale products, starting the new year 2023 she will be as well responsible for our customers bills and invoices. Carrying a very heavy role and huge responsibility while raising her kids- some days they accompany her to the factory- she is a warrior and super mum .
