About Kendaka
/ke:ndækᴧ/: a name historically given to Nubian queens who were strong, brave and wise like the women artisans who create our products.
Kendaka is about exploring and enhancing creativity, about empowerment of women with limited work opportunities, who seek safe and close jobs to provide knowledge and income for their families. It is about raising awareness
The women in Badr community are considered the main pillar of the family and the superwomen behind this project.
Product creation, coordination and quality control is managed by the artisans.
Every final product went through several hands, enhancing technical, artistic and entrepreneurial skills on the way.
Our Story
At Kendaka we are passionate about two things; women and waste reuse! Our glass upcycling, used-plastic weaving and textile-crochet space, is set up by women for women.
It combines the passion for empowering women in isolated communities, and the drive to reduce the harmful environmental impact of waste in Egypt.
First came the space in Badr City, an industrial suburb of Cairo, then a recruitment drive to find and train local women, mothers, daughters and sisters to unleash their creativity.
The space allows the women to design their own products and to experiment with new ideas and methods.
In fact, some of our best-selling items were born out of this process. Ever since, we have been rewarded with creativity and dedication to make useful things out of an environmental problem.
We are an ethical business working to become sustainable in the future so that things can be independently run by our creative Kendakas.
